With spring just around the corner, people are looking forward to getting out of the cold, winter months and being more active. This spring "revival" can include making healthier food and lifestyle choices.
Taking charge of your nutrition has many different aspects and doesn't focus on any single food group. Good nutrition can mean different things for each person and isn't something that can be applied across-the-board.
When looking to form good nutrition habits, a great place to start is by incorporating a variety of colorful fruits and vegetables as well as whole grains. Including healthy protein sources such as legumes, nuts and seafood along with non-tropical plant oils that are high in polyunsaturated fats are also fantastic food options.
But it's not just about eating fresh, whole foods. It's also about cutting out the highly processed food choices. The more processed a food is, the higher the chance that questionable additives, preservatives and sugars are included.
And if you choose to imbibe in your favorite alcoholic drink, be sure to limit your drinks and avoid mixed drinks which are loaded with extra calories. And as with any food intake, balance out your calories with physical activity.
So take some time this month to try and incorporate some new ways to improve your nutrition.
