Bausch + Lomb has issued a voluntary recall of several of its intraocular lenses, which are used to replace the natural lens of the eye in cataract surgery.
All lots of enVista Aspire, enVista Aspire Toric, enVista Envy and enVista Envy Toric intraocular lenses are included in the voluntary recall. In addition, some enVista monofocal and enVista monofocal Toric lenses are included in the recall.
The reason for the recall is due to an increased number of reports of toxic anterior segment syndrome (TASS), which is an inflammatory reaction of the anterior segment of the eye. Bausch + Lomb has not been able to determine the cause of this particular complication but will identify the root cause before bringing the enVista line back to market.
Symptoms of TASS usually occur within 12 to 48 hours of eye surgery and any patients experiencing any symptoms should contact their doctors immediately.
