$2M in gold bullion on the line to find cure for blindness by 2020

Legendary singer Art Garfunkel joins forces with Sanford Greenberg, chairman of the Wilmer Eye Institute's Board of Governors and Jerry I. Speyer, a New York-based real estate magnate to offer a $2 million prize in the search for a cure for blindness. Mr. Greenberg was blinded by glaucoma at the age of 19 and he vowed to find a cure for blindness. Today, more than 39 million people worldwide are affected by blindness. 80 percent of the diseases that cause blindness are preventable. The prize will be awarded on December 13, 2020 to the person, team or institution that an independent council determines has made the most progress over these next eight years to bring an end to blindness.
