Severe eye injuries in golf

If someone were to ask you which sports were the most dangerous to your vision, golf probably is not one that would make the top three. But a recent analysis of studies found that while golf-related injuries occur less often than eye injuries in other sports, golf has a higher rate of "open globe injury." The study took a look at 80 sports and only BB guns and arrows/darts were responsible for more globe injuries than golf. Golf even ranked higher than boxing, karate and football. Researchers noted that patients documented in the study were not wearing adequate protective eyewear and had such protective eyewear been worn, then significant eye trauma would have likely been avoided. When shopping for protective lenses, be sure and look for polycarbonate lenses with American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) ratings.*
