Rise in cataract cases among heavy users of digital devices

The Central News Agency in Taiwan is reporting a rise in cataract cases among patients between the ages of 30 and 50 who are heavy users of digital devices such as smartphones and tablets. Ophthalmologists have noted a 20% increase in the number of cataract patients under the age of 54 over the last five years. The significant increase in cataract cases may be due to the increased popularity and use of handheld devices. The long-term use of handheld digital devices causes eye fatigue and premature aging of the eyes.
