Popular eyelash extensions linked to dry eye symptoms

Results from an observational study showed that eyelash lifts and extensions are linked to dry eye symptoms.

A stunning 90% of people involved in the observational study stated that they had experienced dry eye symptoms after undergoing eyelash cosmetic procedures. While the procedures are still considered to be safe and patients report high rates of satisfaction with the procedures, there is still a large portion of patients who report various symptoms including allergic blepharoconjunctivitis, keratitis and dry eye symptoms.

Even with the high rate of adverse effects, patients who had the eyelash procedures indicated they were satisfied with the procedures and would repeat them. Researchers do advise that if the patient already has issues with dry eye symptoms, it would be better to not undergo eyelash procedures so as not to exacerbate symptoms.
