Omega-3 consumption beneficial in treating dry eye

A recent study involving 64 patients suffering from dry eye symptoms revealed that the intake of omega-3 fatty acids resulted in a decrease in the rate of tear evaporation, an increase in tear secretion and overall improvement in dry eye symptoms. The results were published in AAO Journal online. The study participants were between the ages of 45 and 90 years of age. Those who were in the treatment group were given 2 capsules of omega-3 (each capsule contained 180 mg EPA and 120 mg of DHA) everyday for 30 days. Participants in the placebo group took 2 medium-chain triglyceride oil capsules for 30 days. After the 30 days, both groups were assessed and the significant improvements were noted in the treatment group. VisiVite's Dry Eye Relief uses a proprietary blend of both the DHA and EPA omega-3's and is a patented formulation that addresses dry eye symptoms.*
