VisiVite offers a combination of its formulas with DHA omega-3, and here are additional reasons why that combination is effective. Researchers at LSU Health New Orleans have found that gene interactions that deal with vision as well as brain function can help prevent blindness and aid in stroke recovery. The essential fatty acid, DHA, is responsible for creating Neuroprotectin D1 (NPD1). LSU researchers found that NPD1 is responsible for turning on the gene mechanism that determines whether a brain or retina cell lives or dies when those cells are threatened with either disease or injury. Prior studies had demonstrated the NPD1 protected cells but the molecular mechanism behind this protection had yet to be determined. Now that researchers have discovered the mechanism, they hope to be able to unlock therapies that will aid in the treatment of macular degeneration and stroke.*
