The FDA recently announced a nationwide recall for a specific lot of Systane Lubricant Eye Drops Ultra PF due to possible fungal contamination.
Systane is manufactured by Alcon Laboratories and and the recall involves the single vials, on-the-go, 25 count under Lot number 10101 with an expiration date of September 2025. The lot was sold both online and in retail locations.
While no illnesses have been reported, fungal contamination can potentially cause vision-threatening complications and, while instances are rare, life-threatening complications in people who are immunocompromised.
Anyone who has product from this specific lot should stop using it immediately and return it to the point of purchase for either a replacement or refund. You may also call Alcon at 1-800-241-5999 and any adverse events can be reported to the FDA's MedWatch program.
