For people who wear corrective lenses for farsightedness, there may be hope of finally being able to get rid of the glasses.
The FDA recently announced it's approval of the first eye drops to treat presbyopia (farsightedness). The eye drops, Vuity, were developed by Allergan and are a pilocarpine HCl ophthalmic solution.
The once daily drops require a prescription and they take effect in as little as 15 minutes but can last up to six hours. The drops improve near and intermediate vision without impacting distance vision. The drops have the ability to adjust to the tear film's pH.
Participants in the clinical trials noted significant improvement of at least 3 lines in near vision in low light conditions without losing more than one line of distance vision. Participants didn't report any serious adverse effects.
