Delta is coming, then Epsilon, then Zeta. As the Covid-19 virus is allowed to replicate in the population in unvaccinated people, it will continue to mutate, and thus persist, because that’s how many viruses continue to survive.
Although your area might not have yet been hit hard by the Delta variant, it will be in the coming days, because people in Florida and other states where the virus is running rampant cross state lines. In vulnerable areas, the hospitalization rates have DOUBLED in just two weeks. And the people who are getting admitted to hospitals are predominantly younger adults. Why? Because unbelievably, the Delta variant is both more infectious AND more deadly than the original.
If you have not yet been vaccinated, I urge you in the strongest way to reconsider your position. When the governors of Florida and Alabama begin imploring their state’s citizens to get vaccinated, you know there’s been a sea-change in attitude. Columbia University in New York City, where I teach, is now mandating the vaccine for all students and instructors like myself.
I’m vaccinated and continue to wear an N-95 mask in my medical office. If you work in health care and have direct patient contact, and if you’re not doing so already, you may wish to reconsider wearing either an N-95 or KN-95, especially if you’re not yet vaccinated. Because you have to breathe THROUGH the N-95 mask filter rather than around the edges as is true for blue masks or through unfiltered cloth masks, the N-95 and KN-95 masks best prevent both you and others from getting sick.
No matter how healthy you are, no matter how much Vitamin D you take, the Covid variants are coming to get you. That will be bad not only for you, but your family and the population as a whole.
Nearly 4 BILLION vaccine doses have been given in the world to date, and more than 1 BILLION people are fully vaccinated. Yet it’s not enough. Many more have to get on board.
