Many patients prefer same-day bilateral anti-VEGF injections over unilateral injections, and a recent study confirms the safety of the bilateral injections.
102 patients who received bilateral anti-VEGF injections on the same day for 23 months were included in the retrospective study. The patients had the same systemic and ocular adverse effects as patients who received unilateral injections. The average age of the patients in the bilateral injection group was 81.1 years. There were also 102 patients in a group who received the unilateral injections and their average age was 82 years. The follow-up for both groups was 18.4 months.
Significantly, 91 patients in the bilateral injection group preferred the bilateral injections rather than being subjected to unilateral injections over two visits.
