Avastin causes greater inflammation than Lucentis

Patients receiving Avastin injections have a 12-fold increase in the risk of developing severe inflammation compared to patients receiving Lucentis injections. The study conducted by researchers at Queen's University in Canada evaluated more than 1,600 injections of the two drugs. The results are significant because many patients need several injections so the risk to them is collective. Avastin is one-tenth the price of Lucentis and both drugs are used to treat the wet form of age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Serious eye inflammation can lead to vision loss.*
