For patients dealing with advanced macular degeneration, a new augmented reality headset will soon be available.

The lightweight and user-friendly OcuLenz headset is designed by Ocutrx Technologies and works by overlaying high-contract, pixel-manipulated images onto the user's remaining usable field of vision. It gives the user visual assistance through real-world video imagery in an augmented reality display that is custom-made to the user's remaining visual field. This integrative experience allows the user to go about doing everyday tasks. The headset is also compatible with Wi-Fi as well as cellular connectivity.

Ocutrx is preparing for commercial release of OcuLenz in the first half of 2024 and the company is in the process of trying to get coverage from Medicare and commercial insurance providers.
