Well-known journalist and talk show host Anderson Cooper discovered the hard way that sunburns don't just happen to your skin. While on an assignment in Portugal last month, Mr. Cooper suffered a sunburn to his eyes from ultraviolet light reflecting off of water.
As a result of the sunburn, Mr. Cooper was temporarily blinded for 36 hours. When the eye gets burned by ultraviolet light, the membrane of the cells are damaged and it breaks down. The best treatment for a sunburn of the eyes is time because the eye is going to make new cells.
The best way to avoid such a painful experience is to wear ultraviolet sunglasses and the sunglasses don't have to be pricey to be effective. You should look for sunglasses that indicate that they offer ultraviolet protection.
