Diabetic retinopathy is the #1 cause of vision loss among working adults between the ages of 20 and 74 in the United States.* Lucentis recently gained FDA approval for monthly treatment of every form of diabetic retinopathy. This marks the first drug that the FDA has approved to treat diabetic retinopathy "with or without diabetic macular edema". In addition to treating diabetic retinopathy with or without diabetic macular edema, Lucentis is also approved to treat wet age-related macular degeneration (AMD), macular edema after retinal vein occlusion, myopic chorodial neovascularization and diabetic macular edema. Lucentis is also approved for use in treating wet AMD, diabetic macular edema and macular edema in one hundred other countries besides the United States.
