When trying to lose weight, most people think that it's about what food you eat but what you drink impacts your weight loss ability as well.
It's a common misconception that if you "drink" your calories that it is better for weight loss, but here are three drinks you should avoid on your weight loss journey.
1. Coffee
This one may surprise you and it is a favorite beverage all around the world. Coffee contains caffeine, which as ironic as it may seem, slows down your metabolism by increasing your adrenaline levels. This increase in adrenaline makes your heart rate go up making you burn more calories, which in turn makes you require more calories. If you just can't give up that cup of joe in the morning, make the switch to decaf.
2. Sugary Drinks
Drinks with high levels of sugar cause you to crave more carbs, which has a negative effect on your blood sugar levels. Even fruit juices, which may seem healthy, have this negative impact. Soda is the worst offender because it doesn't have any nutritional value and has been associated with diabetes, heart disease and obesity.
3. Alcoholic Drinks
Excessive consumption of alcoholic drinks promotes weight gain because of their ability to impact the liver's ability to process fat properly. If you wish to imbibe occasionally, reach for that glass of red wine, which has been found to have health benefits.
So the next time you reach for a drink, think about having water. There are lots of refreshing options available from sparkling to those infused with fruit essence. You might just be happier the next time you step on the scale.
