My 3 Favorite Eye Vitamins When You Don't have AMD

The most common question I’m asked by friends and friends of friends is, “My father/mother/sibling has macular degeneration. They’re already taking an AREDS2 supplement. Is there anything else they should be doing?” And most of my answer doesn’t answer the question they asked. Instead, I ask them, “What are you doing for yourself?”

The most common question I’m asked by friends and friends of friends is, “My father/mother/sibling has macular degeneration. They’re already taking an AREDS2 supplement. Is there anything else they should be doing?” And most of my answer doesn’t address the question they asked. Instead, I ask them, “What are you doing for yourself?”

Science is divided on this fact, because it’s hard to prove in a healthy population over 20-30 years that taking a targeted eye supplement has benefit. But just because it’s difficult to prove doesn’t mean it has no merit. Especially when you look at the emotional and financial costs of a bad case of wet macular degeneration. So I take eye supplements for myself (my genetics show that I have an increased risk), and likewise recommend them for others when their genetic risks are increased. And depending on what someone is willing to spend and how many capsules per day they want to take determines which formula I recommend. I ALWAYS recommend formulas without zinc for people without macular degeneration. In order of preference, these are the three formulas I discuss with people:

VisiVite Balanced Ocular Support - It’s the best overall eye health supplement on the market, in my humble opinion. It costs $29.95/month and requires two capsules per day.
VisiVite AREDS2 Zinc-Free White Formula - It’s AREDS2 without zinc or copper. Simple, pure, concise. It costs $23.95/month and requires two capsules daily.
VisiVite Super Lutein 444 Formula - A potent two-ingredient mix of 44 mg lutein and 4 mg zeaxanthin that requires only one capsule per day. $23.95/month.
